Austin Fashion Week #AFW in Jarlo.

finally. the opportunity to wear this beauty (insert happy dance)! Jarlo London is a brand you want to wear when you want to stand out (not a known US brand) and be extra (in a super classy way). basically, it’s red carpet material. these types of dresses do not need any kind of jewelry β€” if you have to wear any, keep it very minimal with a pair of studs, that’s all that is needed because the dress stands out on its own. i wanted a Jarlo dress for quite some time now and waited for a sale on top of a sale to purchase one; not even knowing when i would get to wear it. sometimes i do this just in case something pops up so that i’m not scrambling to find something to wear because we all know how that never works out! Jarlo embodies lace overlays, ruffles, the classy bardot necklines… it has my name written all over it and there isn’t one design i don’t want in my closet. it was so appropriate for #AFW (recap of Thursday night after the jump) and the dress received tons of compliments; even from men. how can it not?! the dress is extremely well made, i’d almost say it's hefty in a good way. it features a built in bra (i feel all dresses should!!), you get what you pay for and even at regular price it’s a solid choice.

side ramblings: the @nordstromatx x @fashionx.co x @tkckindness fashion show to kick off #AFW was a huge success! it was so fun to hang out with some peers who i consider big timers and doing huge things. what an honor. my parents came out that night and they kept telling their friends about it. especially my dad, haha can you imagine a man showing all his male friends the clip of his (34-YR OLD) daughter walking in a fashion show? seriously. the cutest thing ever. my dad is obviously proud of me because let me tell you, the man is not impressed by much. unless you’re a Tesla. haha. gearing up for another busy week, i have some pretty exciting things coming up so i’ll see ya next time xx.

Reap What I Sew (favorite of the night)

Reap What I Sew

Reap What I Sew

the coatigan & senreve mini maestra

coatigan = a hybrid between a coat and a cardigan. yes, you heard me right.

diving right into the coatigan. yes, you do need one. here is why: this is a great option in the wardrobe when you’re looking for that layered piece… but a cardigan isn’t quite gonna cut it/too thin or fitted, and a coat is too much coverage. in comes the (insert drumroll)… COATIGAN. and it works perfectly when you need to go somewhere and don’t want the hassle of taking a coat on and off. the coatigan gives you enough coverage to wear it as a full outfit no matter where or what you’re doing (unless you live in Antarctica). i purchased this a while ago and SHOCKED that it is still in stock. but it runs REALLY large. i’m wearing an XS (never happens) in this photo and could even go down to an XXS. even on a really short 5’2” person like myself it falls at a good length. however, it is made of merino and that shrinks a little (live & learn). technically, you’re not supposed to wash it. but you know me, i wash everything. here, i styled it with a classic boyfriend white button down with the cuffs folded over the coatigan. i would even wear it over camis, v-neck tshirts, and as an athleisure layer over leggings. speaking of which, this makes a great travel companion!

the BAG was a birthday gift to myself. and you’ve heard me talk about @senreve on here before. it’s a great bag for under 1K. i’ve talked about the versatility of their bags and have shown you how to wear it below! let me count the ways. i love this little thing and have gotten numerous compliments on it. it’s a great everyday cognac bag that will go with everything. the inside is lined with the most beautiful pastel blue and the compartments inside are well thought out (not surprised coming from Senreve). the mini is a good size for a petite figure 5’2” person. while they offer it in many colors & finishes, i wanted something everyday and something i didn’t have to β€œbaby.” the chestnut was a perfect color and the pebbled leather was the best option for me since it’s scratch resistant!

side happenings: it’s been a JAM packed weekend & week ahead as we gear up for Valentine’s Day. not sure why it’s such a huge holiday, but for me it’s all about them sweet treats and treatin’ yourself right! as an independent woman, i never wait for ANYONE to bring or buy me ANYTHING. and NOR SHOULD YOU. #selfmade and that’s why i’m leaving y’all with the jam below to rock out to. i’m out y’all. && wish me luck on Friday’s fashion show! until next time xx

valentine's day ready & loving yourself

what’s too many #LBDs? asking for a friend.

hellooo february, the month of love! last year i wrote a post on dating tips to celebrate valentine’s/galentine’s day and it was shockingly a huge success. this year i wanted to do something different (of course). and instead i’m bringing the focus back on #1, which is YOU. no amount of dating tips will get you anywhere if you aren’t in love with yourself. sure, some people get lucky in life to meet their soulmate at a fairly decent age, some take a long timeee #ahem. so you’ll be dang sure the man who ends up with me will be beyond exceptional. because i won’t accept anything less. it’s about to get real deep here on JDC. recently i went through a shift in life that took me to another level of self love and greater appreciation for my own journey! ah, gotta love those life experiences/lessons. more after the jump.

PS β€” this dress is everything. i snagged it for almost $50 #hellobargainshopper and didn’t even care when i’d wear it again, heck i was gonna wear it for this fabulous photo shoot so what gives?! i LOVE the longer sleeves, the mock neck, the classy crochet (never thought i’d use those two words in one sentence) overlay, the length, and the peplum hem. it screams JANNA all over it anddd the look of this dress like one from Self Portrait at a fourth of the price. the only thing is… don’t get this snagged on something or you’re pretty much screwed. :D but hey, if this isn’t your jam, i’ve linked a ton of other options under $100.

the last few months i spent a lot of time soul searching. gosh, i learned so much but still such a novice. i started to make some subtle changes in my life that had some HUGE impacts β€” only in a few months too!! and hey, they’re not gonna be anything new you haven’t heard of all over the internet. but people always talk about self love, anddd um, the next question is great, what does that entail? through some guidance i’ve found what works for me and the results are insane. the amount of people, connections, experiences, and opportunities that have come into my life are CRAZY. i invite you to join me and step into this higher meaning of life. sharing my tidbits in my random thoughts below.

  • JOURNAL. journal every morning and night. while i’ve heard of this i never actually practiced it. the mind is most clear in the morning, so take time to jot down the things you’re grateful for. start with three. at night before you sleep, reflect on your day β€” how did a certain person, thing or instance make you feel? heck, it’s your journal write whatever you want. just write though. writing reaffirms the learning process. you’ll become so good at this that you’ll start jotting WAY more than three things in the AM. i even started to write down the things i wanted in my life that i haven’t quite obtained yet. this is a form of β€œacting as if” and it’s a powerful thing. do this for 30-days straight, until you can start doing it subconsciously in your mind. so i’m that gal who’s getting ready in the AM / driving to work talking to myself about all the things i’m grateful for in my life. call me crazy but it’s a game changer or is it life changer? haha. when you live in a constant state of gratitude, it puts you on a totally different level of existence.

  • BREATHE. breathing is everything. breathing or any form of meditation helps calm the mind. imagine all the information your brain takes in and processes everyday, YIKES! hate to have that job!! breathing helps clear that clutter, it helps you become more in tune with your intuition so that you can ultimately make the best decisions that align with your true self. close your eyes right now and take three deep breaths, i bet you can already feel some calmness flow through. try it!

  • AFFIRM. find an affirmation. read it, write it (remember, writing it down reaffirms the learning process), repeat it out loud. heck, get so good at it that you memorize it or write your own affirmation. do it for 30-days straight. affirmations are so powerful because they say it takes 30-days to ingrain something in your mind. essentially, what you’re doing is reprogramming your subconscious mind. there is a whole boatload of information on the subconscious mind but in summary, it controls 95% of your brain, it stores memories, habits, past experiences and retrieves them. its job is to make sure you respond exactly the way you are programmed through past experiences. so CLEARLY it is the the KEY to personal growth. reprogram it with affirmations. start affirming TODAY!

  • ENERGY. energy is everything and everything is energy (even on a scientific level)! yes, life is full of problems and we always want what we can’t have etc…. but let’s just redirect our focus from our problems and what we don’t have to what we’re grateful for as this is the running theme for this post. try to see the bigger picture. you’ll find yourself vibrating at an energy of love, joy, happiness, and peace. these are some of the highest forms of vibrational energy. AND only in this state will you be open enough to attract, accept, and see all the things/people/connections/opportunities coming into your life. LIKE A MAGNET. because… you attract what you are. period.

  • TRUST. doing all the above creates a direct relationship with your intuition, that gut feeling. generally speaking, i consider myself an intuitive person by nature. BUT i recently learned i was never completely following it 100%. see, listening to your intuition is good, but the real thing is actually FOLLOWING it through. which most of us fail at because or ego makes us question our intuition. trust your intuition when it FIRST speaks to you. it’s a powerful thing that’s why it only speaks once.

in all instances, all answers and self love come from within. focus on yourself, choose yourself at the end of the day. always always. let go. forgive, learn the lessons. remember, that your value and self worth stands no matter what happens or who walks in and out of your life. sending you all the love & strength on this beautiful journey of stepping into your authentic self xx

the cropped faux fur jacket

it’s FAUX fur. faux real umm-kay.

a faux fur jacket is something i’ve always wanted except living in TX it just felt wrong to get one because it never gets that THAT cold here. UNLESS it’s on major sale. haha, i snagged this one for half off and didn’t think i would keep it but once i touched it there was no turning back. IT IS THE SOFTEST thing ever. i wore it out that same weekend and this jacket is a compliment magnet. everybody wants to… touch it. i mean i don’t even blame them. haha. i feel like a teddy bear in it #literally. it made me realize i never wear brown. so of course i style it here with BLACK. it’s probably a fashion faux pas but i don’t care. the two can be mixed in my opinion. a cropped jacket (faux fur or not) is a great one to have in the mix especially for petites because they don’t make you look shorter when you’re being β€œswallowed” by a jacket. AND if it’s fur, it adds a fun little texture as well and texture to any outfit always wins.

side happenings: LIFE IS CRAZY. (i keep saying that don’t i?! i can’t help it, it’s true). this past week was loaded of events & being in the presence of empowering women. i was invited to model by our local @nordstromatx in one of their kick off events for Austin Fashion Week #AFW β€” WOW, what an honor! it’s both terrifying and exciting so you know i’m on board. i come to learn it’s actually a fashion show… so runway, here i come!! all proceeds go to The Kindness Campaign // @tkckindness which is becoming my favorite charity. i had the chance to meet some of the ladies this past week and able to view their curriculum they bring into the schools where they teach kids about #selflove, emotions, feelings, and that YOU ARE ENOUGH just the way you are. their mascot is named Enoughie!! i don’t have kids but i LOVE what they do and wished i was able to experience this curriculum back in elementary school. in a day and age where social media is so prevalent, if you do not have the right mindset about yourself, it will tear you apart no matter what age. more about it later because these ramblings are actually becoming too long but i can’t help it because i have so many great things to share! until next time, xx.

the ribbed tube skirt

what up january?!

trying something new here on JDC. while this isn’t my favorite look, i’m glad i tried it out. that is what fashion is all about sometimes! and ya girl is out of content so this is gonna have to do for now lol. i’ve been wanting to try a skirted look with the top layered over the skirt and belted as seen here. the mistake with this outfit is the skirt β€” it’s a tad too long on my short 5’2” self and i’ve pulled it pretty high up on my torso here too, lol. but the idea is to take a tunic sweater, layer it over your skirt (preferably something a little fitted) and belt it. #soclassy. oh hello gucci belt. y’all know how i feel about logos but this belt is an exception. i use it a ton and mainly as a waist belt to cinch things in and polish any outfit. a belt is such a good accessory!

side ramblings: these have been getting long lately so gonna keep it simple this week! i was able to meet @erincondren this past weekend and i LOVE her spirit and energy, she’s all about gratitude. i feel pretty thankful to be apart of their #ECSQUAD considering how i’m a pretty small influencer #pinchme. lemme tell you, Erin Condren knows how to throw a party! i walked away with a sugar rush thanks to @fancyfluffaustin // @sprinklessupcakes // @maggielouiseconfections and a ton of nerdy goodies including a personalized cover with my logo to their life planner, pens, markers, stickers, a bullet journal!! i’ve talked about wanting to start a #bulletjournal before because i love looking at them but now i’m just gonna do it!

the cashmere turtleneck dress

oh hey there cashmere.

this is a special piece because it’s my first cashmere item! living in TX, i never have the urge to purchase cashmere. it’s extremely luxe, keeps you super warm but it’s also one of those dry clean fabrics. and y’all know i don’t do dry cleaning (ain’t nobody got time for that!). well, i washed it. haha, yep. you can wash cashmere. i wash everything, even when it says dry clean, i know i’m a real rebel. i just don’t get how you can actually clean something without water?! i digress, it turned out fine. just google it. put it in a closed pillow case (use safety pins), use cold water, and don’t use softener. oh and if you’ve read this far, this dress is sold out #storyofmylife

wow oh wow 2018 FLEW BY! don’t you agree?! i can barely believe this is my last post for 2018. i’ve taken a lot of time to reflect on the last 12 months. reflection is always good and i encourage you to do the same. while this was one of the years i took the most breaks, experienced stagnant growth in terms of stats and sales… ironically, it is the year that stands out in terms of business/career, connections made, friendships cultivated and A LOT of pinch me moments where i clearly remember my adrenaline was running and i had to ask myself β€œis this really happening to me right now?” moments where i was so happy i wanted to cry (and actually did), when i would wake up and couldn’t believe this was my life i was living. when does this ever happen?! there were so many victories/happenings i can think of that put this huge grin on my face. and it all boils down to… (insert drum roll) it IS a glimpse of what is to come. this is the beginning. cheers to 2019, i hope you look forward to this year as much as i do. seize & create opportunities for yourself with this clean page. live a great story.

side ramblings: what a few weeks of events galore, oh and celebrating my fab self. haha, basically i stuffed my face and treated myself right! i attended a charity event hosted by @thehonestshruth #KeepAustinWarm2018 that benefited Austin Pets Alive, Safe Alliance, and Hope Food Pantry. the white elephant holiday party hosted by @shelbysorrell // @thehonestshruth // @onechelofanadventure // @rachelprochnow was a huge highlight because here i made a ton of friends who are doing so many great things; it inspires me to do even more. oh, and i snagged a HOWDY hat by @frankiejean so you know life is good. AND YES, i’ve worn it already! the gals are holding me accountable for wearing this hat since i’m usually dressed up, β€œdo you own a baseball cap? do you even wear hats? janna, we’ve never seen you dressed down HAHA” christmas at my house was AWESOME! hostess with the mostess right here (jk, i only had muffins and pigs in a blanket to offer) but it was such a great feeling to have everyone over (and to be real, they were only here because i was the only one with the tree HAHA, thank you @kingofchristmas!). we also did an escape room at @lockoutatx, if y’all know me, i love doing these #nerdalert i think i’ve done about eight escape rooms across austin and haven’t escaped ONE (our first one so ya know). we barely made it out of this one but dang, the holidays were so fun. back to reality soon. whomp whomp, thank goodness for coffee! until next time xx.

celebrating 34 years

howdy, 34!

i can barely believe it’s already my birthday again! CRAZY! nonetheless, 34 here we are. i took a moment to read my 33rd birthday post and ah, it was such a good one and a great reminder even a year later. if you know me, i love to celebrate life β€” all things BIG and small (everyday). and birthday’s are one of them that happen once a year! i’m a firm believer that YOU should always treat YOURSELF right! reflections, janna-style after the jump.

another unexpected color combo: an almost mustard color & black! also, i love the texture that this corduroy skirt adds with the knit sweater and the suede over the knee (OTK) boots. of course, by the time i get to posting it, the skirt is sold out #bloggerprobs. y’all know i can’t let a winter season go by without busting OTK boots out.

side ramblings: last week i was fortunate to attend Kendra Scott x Hillary Kerr's (founder of WHOWHATWEAR) fireside chat at the new KS flagship store in Austin (if you haven’t seen it, it is BEAUTIFUL. i can only imagine the thought and detail that was put into the entire space)! there's always something so empowering about being in a room full of women trying to build their empire #bossbabes. i always love surrounding myself with people like so. it was a great night and Kendra & Hillary imparted some pretty simple reminders to us (yes, i actually do take notes): nothing worthwhile is ever easy, trust your gut, less is more, be the CEO of your own career because no one will care as much as you do, lead with kindness. all great takeaways to apply in daily life. at this event i knew no one except one gal in passing three times, @heynasreen who introduced me to her friend @lisajmakeup AND guess what? that following monday, Lisa asked me to be apart of her photoshoot for a tshirt she’s launching for a good cause. um, HELL YEA. i am a firm believer in ALWAYS SHOWING UP. that is HUGE. no matter if you know anyone or not, or if you have no idea what you’re going to gain from it, etc… i’m all about building connections or what i call these touchpoints in life. you just never know who you’re going to meet or where it’s gonna take you. #powerofpossibilities

i struggled to write this post. i scratched a lot of ideas, drafted and redrafted this. but i thought i'd just let it flow naturally. as i turn the corner to 34, i hope to be blinded by all the goodness that life has to offer. i want it to be so blinding that i have to pause and close my eyes to soak it all in. i hope to look at all set-backs and disappointments as a stepping stone to get me to where i need to be. in a recent conversation my GF stated, β€œyou don’t always get what you want, but you get what you need.” #dropmicquit and here is where i insert of one my favorite dozen quotes:

life is about the JOURNEY, and never the DESTINATION.

something that came to me recently was a saying on an @erincondren planner that was sent to me that i have embodied and continue to is, "design a life that you LOVE." i mean LOVE. what does this mean to you? to me, this means doing the things that i LOVE without a care in the world about anything/anyone else. it could also mean getting rid of the junk/people in your life that don't serve you well (and that you know don't serve you well). when things aren’t adding up right, it’s time to start subtracting. this also means knowing your self value/self worth without QUESTION! visualization is key here (and super nerdy so you know i'm on board), so visualize a life that you love β€” what does that look like? who's in it? what are you doing? what are you "driving" towards? ....and GO FREAKING MAKE IT HAPPEN! most of the time, the only thing holding you back is yourself! if you don’t know what you’re doing, FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT! and if you’re overwhelmed, START SMALL. it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re moving FORWARD & you’re actively making sh!t happen!! now is always the time. the most valuable currency we have is TIME. don't waste a second of it. don’t waste it on negative thoughts/people, blaming yourself, trying to change the past or re-work it. realize that the HERE, the NOW, the YOU are the only things you have control over. BUT allow yourself to believe that the next best thing is around the corner, you just have to open your eyes to be able to see it.

honestly, this probably makes zero sense to you, it’s written very much in what i dub to be janna-rambling-style. but all in all, it makes so much sense to me and that’s all that matters (bc who even reads this?! haha). cheers to you, janna, you’ve come a long way and you’re more sure of yourself than you have ever been in your entire life. stay focused, stay strong. i can’t wait to see what 34 has in store for you. whatever you do, make it #intentional & #EPIC.
