the sleeveless mock neck sweater

fall, where you be?!

the sleeveless mock neck sweater. for when itโ€™s really fall but itโ€™s 90F+ outโ€ฆ i digress, mock necks are super effortless and they go with all skirts (which i have a ton of). i actually have this top in two colors because thatโ€™s what i do when i love something โ€” itโ€™s a normal thing, RIGHT?! iโ€™ve also paired it with the marina wide leg pants as well. the material isnโ€™t super thick so itโ€™s a good transitional piece. here i paired it with a full seamed skirt in the prettiest light blue, a super cool toned one. light blue doesnโ€™t look that great on my skintone but this one is perfect! i really like these full seamed skirts because of the fit and i also sized down in this for a high-waisted fit, aka: over 30-fit.

side happenings: WHOA. what a FUN weekend! it felt so good to be โ€œon the sceneโ€ again seeing familiar faces iโ€™ve missed. the @hotelzazaaustin grand opening party was over the top crazy. (in a good way). haha, itโ€™s been a long time since iโ€™ve gone to an event like that!! itโ€™s a beautiful space, in a totally swanky zaza-style. my GF Nicole // @loveofallthethings hosted her first event at @paddywaxcandlebar and you already know iโ€™m a huge fan! iโ€™ve taken one of my BFFs for her bday and itโ€™s a great gift idea/quality/experience-type gift. this time i went with a spicy xmas scent w/a wood wick for a little crackle crackle itโ€™s going to be so FRIGGIN festive at casa JD (sarcasm). i donโ€™t have a fireplace so this will be it :D. BTW, if you havenโ€™t had the butter toffee pretzels at Trader Joeโ€™s, you better run and get someโ€ฆ before i buy em all out. :D

the summer leopard print midi skirt

summertime leopard.

when you find the BEST lighting everything else is effortless. itโ€™s all about the lighting!

there is no lie. iโ€™m a total skirt gal. i will admit that my skirt collection is a little insane. i own more skirts than i do pants & jeans combined! haha, and letโ€™s not even get into how many pleated midi skirts i have #gulp. usually i associate animal print with more of a fall trend but when i came across this skirt it was summertime appropriate being blush and the leopard print is actually very subtle. into the basket it went. lately iโ€™ve taken a liking to the pull on bias midi style, this one is a zipper closure but remains timeless. the material is a little thin and you can see the liner through it but doesnโ€™t bother me. i styled it here with my fave tee for an everyday casual wear. the skirt is TTS, and actually high waisted so great parings for crop tops as well.

lastly, the utility jacket is probably my most worn jacket. great for when i (might) need a light layer and have no time to think about what iโ€™m grabbing when i walk out the door. the best part is the pockets and so itโ€™s my must have when i travel (and my movie jacket, haha, you have one donโ€™t you!?). style tip: try a cognac waist belt on top of the jacket! what do ya think? with jacket or without?

#nsale: the. @nordstrom. sale gets its own little section. i wasnโ€™t super impressed this year and everything sold out REAL FAST. currently only open to cardholders until 07/18 and everyone else on 07/19-08/04. everything goes back to regular price on 08/05. iโ€™m sure they will restock but here are my slim-picking-picks with TOP 5 to make it easy: RAILS collins military jacket // FRAME le high waist skinny jeans // Caslon camo utility jacket // TOPSHOP funnel neck top // BP lace trim cami

side ramblings: thanks for all the well-wishes! last week was pretty low-key and i ended up having to decline a few events. taking it easy on food when really all i wanna eat isโ€ฆ like. everything. shamu-appetite is on pause for now. i finally watched To All The Boys Iโ€™ve Loved Before and for being a teen novel it was actually way too cute and i unexpectedly enjoyed it more than Always Be My Maybe! Lara J actually reminds me of myself in some ways :D lastly, @senreve is offering a pretty BIG gift with purchase worth mentioning: a complimentary Senreve bracelet pouch (valued at $145) if you spend over $500 and a complimentary Senreve envelope clutch (valued at $245) if you spend over $1,100. you can read more & see how iโ€™ve styled my favorite bag from them โ€” the mini maestra here. definitely a great time to pick up a bag if you were debating it & you should do a happy dance in your seat because iโ€™m giving you my referral link to receive $50 off your purchase (and i get $50 so we all are winning) #shamelessadvertising

the ribbed tube skirt

what up january?!

trying something new here on JDC. while this isnโ€™t my favorite look, iโ€™m glad i tried it out. that is what fashion is all about sometimes! and ya girl is out of content so this is gonna have to do for now lol. iโ€™ve been wanting to try a skirted look with the top layered over the skirt and belted as seen here. the mistake with this outfit is the skirt โ€” itโ€™s a tad too long on my short 5โ€™2โ€ self and iโ€™ve pulled it pretty high up on my torso here too, lol. but the idea is to take a tunic sweater, layer it over your skirt (preferably something a little fitted) and belt it. #soclassy. oh hello gucci belt. yโ€™all know how i feel about logos but this belt is an exception. i use it a ton and mainly as a waist belt to cinch things in and polish any outfit. a belt is such a good accessory!

side ramblings: these have been getting long lately so gonna keep it simple this week! i was able to meet @erincondren this past weekend and i LOVE her spirit and energy, sheโ€™s all about gratitude. i feel pretty thankful to be apart of their #ECSQUAD considering how iโ€™m a pretty small influencer #pinchme. lemme tell you, Erin Condren knows how to throw a party! i walked away with a sugar rush thanks to @fancyfluffaustin // @sprinklessupcakes // @maggielouiseconfections and a ton of nerdy goodies including a personalized cover with my logo to their life planner, pens, markers, stickers, a bullet journal!! iโ€™ve talked about wanting to start a #bulletjournal before because i love looking at them but now iโ€™m just gonna do it!

blush & burgundy

hello 2 0 1 8 !

ah here we are, first post of the new year so you know i had to go with a pleated midi skirt. :D in case you're new around here, i own probably eight pleated midi skirts. no joke. i LOVE them and they're actually my best selling item; so chic, so feminine -- SO ME. here's a throwback to my most hit page last year: the lace crop top & blush pleated midi skirt (actually.. it's pretty funny how i shot this current post at the same location...). let's talk about this color combo, blush (pulls more towards the nude side) + burgundy? #digginit. never thought to mix the two together, but love the two contrasting colors together and that little bell sleeve of the sweater really brings it all together.

side ramblings: 2018 is gonna be hard to top since 2017 was such a good year for me, i mean... i bought a freaking house #adultstatus!! i finally marked New York Fashion Week #NYFW off my bucket list. more importantly, as a person, i started to say no to more things i should have said no to in the past because i didn't want to be mean. on the flip side i also said HELL YES to things that i would normally be afraid to do. i started to carefully evaluate how my time was spent -- what i was doing and who i was spending it with. i started to draw boundaries when they were overstepped. i started to tolerate less BS. more than ever, i started to do so much for MYSELF -- if i wanted to go see or do something, i wouldn't wait around for anyone's schedule to align to go with me, i'd go alone, i'd eat alone. i've come to embrace the entity that is ME. cheers to 2018. the best is yet to come.

the suede skirt & sock booties

documenting my first pair of sock booties.

after some wear i have decided that sock booties are the perfect WORK bootie! something a little dressier than your average flat bootie and the chunky/block heel makes it a comfy pick for an 8 to 5 workday. while the shaft on these arenโ€™t as tall as normal sock booties it works for me because iโ€™m 5โ€™2โ€ short and anything taller would make me look shorter (if that makes sense).i love making workwear a little more trendy, so when i saw this suede skirt, i had to snag it for obvious reasons -- the length is so work appropriate. and hey doesn't hurt that it's in a beautiful olive color too!

also, fitted mock turtlenecks are my staple in the fall/winter because they go with ALL skirts & are SO EASY PEASY. theyโ€™re so good i have probably four plain black ones! it's a pretty solid base layering piece and goes underneath sheath dresses too! speaking of work, i've been wearing this pebbled leather satchel as a work bag, it's a little different from my other structured work bags because it's made of slouchy pebbled leather and although the handles don't fall down, there's plenty of space & pockets. i've grown to love the pebbled leather slouchy-ness.

side ramblings: it feels good to be back. i haven't shot much at all but now that it's getting cooler, IT IS ON. my holiday photos will be up on Monday, be sure to stop by! xx

nyfw part 2

can't get enough of these New York photos!

finally winding down from the weekend/housework and finding some time to regroup and gather my thoughts for this post. i wanted to cover some things i learned in terms of dress for NYFW. as mentioned in my part 1 post, i didn't have much time to pack or plan. AND i actually checked in a luggage for the FIRST TIME EVA. haha. i usually travel pretty light but this time it was actually nice to have that extra space -- this could become a thing now hrmmm..

tips on packing for NYFW //

  • mix old + new -- this is a great way to brush off some older items in your closet and restyle it! here i used a work pencil skirt to style with this really fun asymmetric top that shows a little skin, oh and it's a designer dupe at a $16 steal! usually when you wear something entirely new, chances are someone else will be wearing it. not that there isn't anything wrong with twinning.
  • dress for comfort -- while i'm a huge fan of fashion i went with more basic & comfortable items because i knew it was going to be long hours and lots of walking. i even wore a tee-shirt dress. haha, featured in part 3 #comingsoon.
  • bring comfortable shoes (or bring lots of shoe options!!) -- even bringing tennis shoes or extra shoes with you to change into is a HUGE must. i found that no matter what you wear, after hours your feet will start to hurt! pack chunky heels, platforms, tennis shoes, flats, wedges but no stiletto heels!! PRO TIP: DO NOT. i repeat DO NOT bring new shoes that you have never worn. ever. your feet will thank me.
  • pick versatile outfits -- meaning pick outfits that go with multiple shoes. in real time, i actually wore this outfit with booties because by day 2 my feet were already killing me!! or dresses that also go with sneakers!
  • go for statement layering pieces -- this i'll prob try to do this next time. but i think layering pieces are good to add such as a leather jacket, a hat, a statement bag or necklace esp over more basic pieces.
  • grab a good bag -- i do not mean little box bags like the one i'm wearing here (hello, that was just for pictures lol) but something that actually fits a good amount of stuff because YOU WILL NEED IT! i brought my Gucci Marmont with me and it went with everything and fit just the right amount of items. also, a crossbody is MOST useful. the last thing you want it do is bring a bag that ties up one hand. #handsfreealltheway.
  • lastly, wear whatever you feel is YOU -- this is the most important tip. style and fashion changes from one person to another. and just because it's fashion week doesn't mean that you need to show up in the most outrageous attention grabbing outfit. be yourself. that's what my mom always says. ;D

stay tuned for part 3. the last, i promise! xx

PSA -- @baublebar is having their friends & family SALE! use code "BIGONE" for 25% off your purchase, good until 9/27/17! a few of my picks that i own and wear myself: firecracker ear jackets // champagne ear jackets // acrylic block monogram necklace // criselda ball drop earrings // gem pinata tassel earrings // vivian tassel earrings // gold mary links bracelet

day 2 // September 9, 2017
started off the morning all fancy with a lunch tea time at @laduree #pinkiesup. it was such an instagram-worthy spot and so fancy. my girl @fashionablyfitjess was my PIC that day and we spent much of it waiting in lines... bah. after tea time we headed to the @rebeccaminkoff event to find a massive line.. i think we waited in it for a good 45 mins before having to leave for the @bananarepublic public presentation at the flatiron location. as we were dropped off by the taxi, PETA protesters took the stage and it was a big mess. again, jess and i waited in line to see @oliviapalermo but unfortunately, and yet again, the line was so long that by the time we got close-ish to the front, Olivia had already left. WHOMP WHOMP. jess and i decided to drown our sorrows in... @eatlyflatiron!! haha, nothing like good italian food! i walked jess to @grandcentralstation (my first time being there) where she left me to go solo for the rest of the trip. haha, still love you jess!

the evening ended up on a better note; thank goodness.  #sodonewithlines. i checked out the @lulus party which was such a huge hit!! they gifted some outfits which were super cute, nibbled on some amazing food and drinks before heading to the @rewardstyle rooftop party. i was really looking forward to this one because a lot of my instagram friends were going and FINALLY I GOT TO MEET THEM IN REAL LIFE! there was a ton of shrieking (which is so not me), lots of hugging and picture taking. it felt amazing to see the personalities come to life. just to finally meet in real life after following & supporting each other for such a long time!! my girls: @pinterestingplans // @interiordesignerella // @courtneerodgers // @toreystreasures // @laminlouboutins // @lifelutzurious

oh... and i met my blogger idol, @wendyslookbook who has always been an inspiration to me from WAYYY back in the day before i even started this site!

day 3 // September 10, 2017
my friend @stylebeacon had a plus one to a show and of course, i said YES! that morning we hit up @ninatiarinyc and it was a small show but MY FIRST real NEW YORK FASHION SHOW, so thank you michelle! nina has some very pretty designs and i loved all the pattern play. michelle, being the busy boss babe she is had a booked day of shows, i split up with her and finally did some exploring walking all down 5th avenue. i must have walked ... maybe 50 blocks?! haha, i got my bubble tea and dumplings fill. michelle and i finished the night with some sushi & sake!

by the way, what's so cool about being up there during fashion week was running into other TEXAS BLOGGER friends such as @daniaustin // @dressupbuttercup !!

day 4 & 5 in part 3 coming soon. xx

doing what i do best -- laughing at myself. :D

the chambray skirt

crisp white + chambray.

chambray is one of the softest pieces of clothing! it's like denim, but way more toned down in terms of texture and feel. that's why it's acceptable to wear denim and chambray together. but i digress. this chambray skirt comes from a boutique in NYC @LILLAP -- specializing in casual, effortless style. as much as i love to dress up, i do love to mix in some good casual styles. this chambray skirt is in a crosshatch texture making it a tad more unique than others i've seen. it's also a PULL ON STYLE! haha. yes, please. and it has pockets. it pairs perfectly with any tucked in or knotted summery top. one of my current favorite LILLA P pieces is this white one with a lil peplum hem, so pretty, perfect for some beach vacay.

and lastly, if you don't already know, i'm a HUGE @henribendel fan. i think i own about five Henri Bendel bags at this point... yikes. thanks (i think) to my blogger babe Michele, @classicandgray who made me jump on this bandwagon. high quality bags at great price points. this is my first hobo bag, it's got this huge statement tassel on it which i've come to love, its very roomy, and i love the neutral color (also comes in black) and the soft pebbled leather! my current picks for HB if you're looking into the brand: the warren street chain shoulder bag (i actually own it in white..) and the west 57th carryall

PSSTT... i have some pretty exciting news to share but more next week!! thanks again for stopping by!! xx
