the ruffle wrap dress

the one dress you need this summer!

HOWDY! long time, i know. life has been nuts lately (in a great way). diving right into this outfit; the wrap dress is something i rarely wear because it's usually a v-neck and too low for my taste anddd the wrap isn't a functional one in the wind. i'd rather wear a fake wrap dress. what's a fake wrap dress? one where the inner layer is actually sewn to the side so there's no worry about flashing people when it gets windy. this gem is a round neck + ruffles + fake wrap = made for me. not to mention it's in a burnt orange color #hookem! it's a tad on the shorter side for me #leggy. anyways, it's a popular style this summer and i highly encourage you to try it! while i love my comfy flatform espadrilles here, casual sneakers work as well!

side ramblings: it's a small world. a few weeks ago, i was returning something at the mall and the sweetest gal came up to me and asked if i was a fashion blogger, janna doan?! it was one of those pinch-me moments. never i a million years would i have thought!! i felt so humbled and really glad she came up to say hi because most of the time in public i am on a mission. such a doll, she will never know the magnitude of what it meant to me. #grateful and came at the perfect time when i needed that extra motivation. last week i attended the @KendraScott candle launch party. yup, you hear me right, Kendra Scott Candles! these candles make a great addition to her home collection. hard to choose but my favorite so far is the amethyst, i also like the malachite which has a little spicy kick! there are four scents total in two sizes, large retails for $65 and the small votive for $25.

y'all ever tried @allbirds? i was so lucky to go to their pop-in event at @NordstromDomainNorthside and went home with the allbirds tree runners in kauri stone for the texas weather. i'd probably get the wool runners if i lived in a colder climate. can't wait to try them out but initially they are super lightweight and COMFY = happy feet. i also love how sustainable & green the company is! check em out while they're still at Nordstrom here (click on About Pop-In). they also let me pick out the black & gold RECYCLED laces AND i went home with a custom box with my name and hashtag all over it #SOextra. i don't see myself running in them, more of a to-and-from shoe! but give em a try! they have a 30-day return policy even after you wear them, no questions asked. lastly, the weekend was spent being a tourist in my own city with @theelaedition, MISS YOU GF!

weekend recap in squares // @theelaedition x ATX

the lace off the shoulder top

olive + cream.

the off the shoulder top #OTS is such a fun summer one! a little skin never hurt anyone. i've talked about this before but most of the ones i own are not practical. you cannot move your arms around freely without your top riding up to your shoulders. if you're laughing you know exactly what i'm talking about. forget fixing your hair or giving someone a high five (insert sad face emoji). it wasn't until recently that i discovered the disconnected arm/sleeve OTS tops! now these are way way more comfortable!! it makes me want to get rid of the ones i currently own. anyways, this has set a new bar for OTS tops.

this top comes from the cutest San Fran boutique called @morninglavender, owned by fashion blogger @laceandlocks. the boutique is filled with fresh, very feminine finds at affordable price points. it's also tax-free to Texas, FYI.

side happenings: i tried my VERY FIRST spin class yesterday @soulcycle. holy hell. i knew it was going to be brutal, and it was. every. second. the good thing was that i survived (i mean i had to somehow, my feet were strapped to a bike. pedaling. no where). my instructor hit it pretty hard right off the bat and i was certain i wasn't going to make it five minutes in. needless to say i couldn't unclip myself from the bike, made a complete fool of myself, wobbled my way to Sprinkles Cupcakes, almost fell down some stairs, but i had the most energy afterwards and CANNOT wait to go back. it was such a great experience. loved the music, motivation and overall vibe!

well, i probably shouldn't iron at 6:30AM because clearly i need help or an eye exam.

the knotted tank & high waist skinny jeans

three firsts in one post: high waist jeans, choker, and flatforms!

i have wanted to try some high waist jeans for so long! y'all know how much i love my @hudsonjeans, i usually go for the Nico mid-rise skinny jeans and have them in about six washes. i love the fit!! #fitslikeaglove. well, i decided to take it a step up or is it a waist up?! Hudson Jeans make a Barbara high waist fit. they are true to size, i'm very short (5'2") so always have to get jeans hemmed but nothing a little folding up of the hem couldn't solve. but wait, is it just me or do they make my short legs look longer?!?! now... i am a fan of the high rise fit. they are perfect when you have shorter tops or need some forgiving jeans when you indulge a little too much on chips & salsa #guilty #suckseverythingin. i'm eyeing them in a lighter wash and raw hem next! the Krista regular rise is also available for those not interested in the mid or high rise.

i cannot get enough of knotted details right now for some reason, but this tank is going to save me this summer, i have a feeling it is gonna be a hot one in TEXAS. i also wanted to try out the choker trend and instead of the black chokers, i like the dainty gold ones. they are more subtle and therefore a good way to ease into wearing chokers if you are new to them. this one is tri-layered and has a some pretty turquoise stones!

lastly, flatforms. hopping onto this bandwagon pretty late. but i waited too long to buy them last year. they sold out pretty quickly but came back again this year! any kind of platform or flatform are automatically comfortable shoes and i am all about that comfort. these are going to go great with all summer outfits!

side happenings: last week i attended the @SuitSupply x @fashionx.co. i have seen this store in Dallas, but they recently opened up at the Domain recently and is a suit heaven for men. great prices and a one-stop-shop where you can get all the suit essentials; head to toe. here, i finally met Matt of Fashion X who puts on Austin Fashion Week (and Dallas & Houston)! i seriously can not wait for #AFWshenanigans!

the striped dress & olive handbag

down to my favorite last three months of the year!

i am so thrilled to report that the temperature has dropped here in Austin, TX. finally!!! not only is this time of the year my favorite, it also means more (pleasant) shoots without all the sweat! i am a fall girl at heart and the thought of it makes me so happy -- PSL, hot cocoa, peppermint, scarves, boots, decor, lights, casseroles, pecan pie, sweaters/jackets, thanksgiving, christmas, searching for the perfect gift, and FAMILY! ah, it's always the simple things in life.

the it color handbag for fall: OLIVE. when this olive handbag came out for fall, i didn't wait long to get it. good thing, because this color is already sold out! my first olive handbag. and of course, it's a Henri Bendel. it is the perfect mini bag (with a removable crossbody strap) that isn't too small, as most are. olive is a pretty versatile color and can be worn with: white, blush, black, anything striped, and any neutrals, but i welcome suggestions as i'm a newbie. this is a great alternative from my B&W/boring colors. i choose to pair it with this striped dress (hello pockets & midi length) and threw in a little pattern play into the mix with some... leopard print. i use to dislike leopard print but as i've aged i've become more drawn to it in small doses. wait until you see my next outfit post! until then, thanks for stopping by!

side note: going to Austin City Limits (ACL) music festival this Saturday as a #firsttimer! totally not my type of thing, but i have to experience it. hope i survive the madness.

the LBD & bomber jacket

bomber jackets are da bomb.

SO EXCITED!!! because i teamed up with one of my blogger babes, Vanessa // @downtownmaven to bring you a post on how we styled our bomber jackets! but first, i have a brag a little about Vanessa. in a few words i would describe her as: a TREND-SETTER, a world-class-traveler; an eye for design, bold, creative, and absolutely beautiful. here's a few quick questions answered by Vanessa:

1. Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?

Hi! I’m Vanessa and I’m a South Florida Blogger. I’ve been a city girl most of my life residing in downtown Boston prior to living in downtown Ft. Lauderdale before moving to Parkand, FL, just two weeks ago! I’ve been blogging for a little less than a year and still getting to know the ropes. I consider myself the creative type and my blog is just another outlet for me to creatively express myself. Fashion is one of my first and favorite passions in life, which is why I started a fashion blog. I also love to travel, event design (my 9-5) and just became a first time home owner. Stay tuned as more travel and interior design are soon to join fashion on DTM!  Personally I love to share products that are new and/or that I’m passionate about in hopes to inspire or educate others with the same interests. I hope my blog accomplishes this. I believe life is an ever growing journey and my style and blog will undergo many changes as I go through them.

2. How would you describe your personal style and is there a person who is a fashion inspiration to you?

My style is pretty versatile. I tend to dress for the occasion. If I had to narrow it down, I guess I would describe my style as edgy street style with a twist of glam. I’m never afraid to try new looks but feeling comfortable in what I’m wearing is key for me. I find inspiration through many people, places and things, so that too is hard to narrow down. I highly respect Olivia Palermo’s style. Some of my favorite bloggers are Arielle - @somethingnavy, Danielle - @weworewhat, Blaire - @blaireadiebee and Wendy @wendyslookbook

3. What are some of your favorite things to wear?

It’s all about the shoes for me. The right shoe can make any outfit pop. Recently, I have this obsession with culottes as well.

4. What do you like to do on your spare time?

In short, shop. My husband-to-be jokes that all my addictions have one thing in common and that is they involve shopping. Whether I’m looking for a new couch, redoing my bathroom or planning our next vacation, I’m constantly looking for ways to spend my hard earned money! Some other loves include audio books, as I spend a lot of time on the road, painting and hosting dinner parties. I’m also a bit of a cinema nerd.

5. What is the number one thing you’ve learned from blogging?

I know it says one, but I have to give you two things… As clichΓ© as it sounds, I think I’ve learned to stay true to my style. I bought something I kept seeing on other blogs to be apart of the trend and I was so uncomfortable. I hate to waste and that was such a poor decision on my part. Memo to me: What the cool kids are wearing doesn’t make you cool! Secondly, blogging is hard work! It takes a lot of time and thought behind it. Kudos to all the bloggers out there!

bomber jackets are a HUGE trend this spring. so hop on the bandwagon with us please! i will say, when Vanessa suggested we do bomber jackets i was like hmmm... why not since i had just purchased one (to try!). #starsalign. while i was boring and choose a grey bomber (ok, give me some credit, it is SATIN!), Vanessa choose this #likewhoa floral one! i paired mine with a black cut out fit and flare dress, brooch, and studded heels. Vanessa styled hers with a jumpsuit (she rocks everything!), the floral bomber just pops on her!! get the details of her full outfit on @downtownmaven! the bomber jacket is just another great alternative to have to the army green utility jacket, the denim jacket, this one just has a little more edge/street style to it. i can also see it going well with skinny jeans and skirts.

a little about this dress -- you can never have too many ______ (fill in the blank) today, i'll go with "#LBD." this one made its way into my closet for the following reasons: 1) color: black, 2) cut-out detail, 3) midi length, 4) pleated bottom, 5) fit and flare; and 6) top crossover detail at the top, i would say the only thing missing was.. pockets! the material on the dress is hefty; in a good way. i also loved the amount of flare on it, and… as you can see, it is completely twirl-worthy which always makes for fun times/shots! so in case you were wondering what i do on my weekends, i wear LBD and twirl in front of the courthouse with security cameras! haha, #noshame.

denim x chambray

i've wanted to do denim x denim/chambray look for a while, so took advantage of the wacky TX weather for this shoot. the main thing when wearing this combo is to opt for either a lighter or darker wash from your jeans. after that add some fun to your outfit with either prints or pops of color. i took this opportunity to pull out my leopard print heels and layered some jewelry! i've been loving my rocksbox subscription and rocked two pieces from my first box below. review coming soon, but get your first month for FREE using code "jannadoanxoxo"

other mention-ables about this outfit:

  • it's all about the half-tuck.
  • i can now join the pompom crew; yea yea!
  • this tote (bday gift) is so AWESOME! it's reversible, magnetic closure, comes with a pouch, laptop bag, and detatchable crossbody strap!!! seriously, the coolest thing lately.
  • these sunglasses are heavy in rotation from my ditto.com subscription. it's like, "netflix for your face." rent-able designer sunglasses. so genius. i am purchasing them to keep! do you have any recs on what i should rent next? use code "JANNADOANXOXO" to receive your first month for free!

01 | FAUX LEATHER JACKET -- i have a similar style in black from last year, but this Forever21 faux leather moto jacket in grey is looking like a good option. hmm......
02 | ANKLE BOOTIES -- as much as i love booties, the low heel bootie is the most comfortable, here is a good pair of black suede slip ons from Sole Society mars elastic gore bootie. similar to the Vince Camuto corter bootie (but with a zipper).

03 | TURTLENECK/SWEATER DRESS -- this is going to look good with OTK boots or ankle booties! this is the Banana Republic turtleneck micro-stripe sleeveless dress in gray. similar ASOS Glamorous ribbed long sleeve in gray. this ASOS petite swing dress with long sleeves is also a great loose-fitting option! (because we are all about options!)
04 | FAUX FUR STOLE -- stiles are classy and can be used to dress up any neckline, especially jackets! this one from Nordstrom BP faux fur stole in tan has an opening where you can criss cross the ends. another option from Sole Society faux fur stole in brown (doesn't criss cross).
05 | CAPE -- there's something you should know about me. i love capes. i don't know why. they are sometimes difficult to wear and people either like or hate them because you can easily "get lost" in them. but there are ways you can wear them, like with a belt to help. i really like this fall color palette from ASOS River Island blocked sleeveless cape. here is another option in a single camel color ASOS New Look fringe poncho
06 | FLOPPY HAT -- Topshop floppy felt hat in black the Nordstrom floppy wool hat is also very cute and available in a variety of colors. also love $$ on the Old Navy felt floppy hat, see @stylemissmolly rock it in her recent post!
