the belted wide leg pants

another wide leg pant… but BELTED STYLE!

yes, i love me some cropped wide leg pants. that collection has grown. no doubt. but these are belted! why yes, that is a justification. i actually don’t have grey pants and these come in handy when almost all my clothing is black. black is usually the first option i will buy in anything. enter some grey wide leg pants to help break up all my black clothing, weeeeee! these have structure to them so they make the cut #punintended for a dressy wide leg cropped pant for work. the skinny belt also elevates this look. i also like the vertical pockets and how these have a slight texture to them! they’re so good that i bought them in black… so disregard what i wrote earlier. haha

here i styled it with a basic knit short sleeve sweater (work wear essential) and chose to dress it up even more with a detachable embellished collar. you can’t see the collar much in photos but this bib is a great addition you can add to any crewneck to dress things up a bit! i linked quite a few options below for ya!

side ramblings: last week i stopped by @amandadeer and purchased this coin necklace i had been eyeing. i’ve been wearing non-stop. like i need more necklaces… but this one had a unique front toggle clasp (second justification for this one post). it makes a great layering piece! i also stepped into @maggielouiseconfections and this is BAD NEWS. i’m telling you. as someone who doesn’t loveee chocolate, her chocolates are pretty AND they taste so good!! i may have walked out with a box of four. gulp. lastly, @kendrascott generously sent me some classic pieces from the winter 2019 collection i am LOVING. i can’t stop wearing the colette hoops in gold (LIGHT. as a feather) and the walker statement necklace. (both of these will never go out of style!). i also love the matching bracelet too. and how fun are these? lastly, i’m hosting a holiday event next month, details on the IG this week! xx

the floral wrap dress & retro accents

oh hi, hello.

i can’t tell you how many times i opened this post up to try and put something together but the only thing staring at me was the blinking cursor. like a good relationship (or ponytail), you just can’t force it. ya know? life was heavy. with the great loss of grandpa Doan and hearing about the loss of others all in the same month was… devastating. i cried for my loss and all losses. i spent a lot of time alone and days where i didn’t leave the house. before leaving to San Fran for my cousins wedding, i had this significant dream. in this short-dream i remember looking up at the sky and there she was… grandma Doan, smiling down at me, GRINNING with pure happiness. she didn’t say anything to me, she just smiled. then i woke up. i remember feeling comforted, relief, and what divine timing this dream had come to me at the right time when i needed it most. i don’t really remember my dreams and nor have i dreamt about grandma Doan since she passed away 13 years ago.

getting back from SF, i fell pretty ill into the flu of sorts (turned into bronchitis now) which felt like a set back. i was so ready to get back to my β€œnormal” life again. but of course, the universe had different plans. needless to say, the last few months were full of introspection, deep thought, and healing which led to more personal growth and a shift in perspective. i’m still trying to find my rhythm again, but i do miss my slice of the internet, so hence, here i am. thank you so much for sticking around. xx

while the fashion & retail world are all into fall fashion… i just can’t (yet). it’s still wayyy too hot here in TX. plus, i have a backlog of photos so it all works out :D of course this dress is sold out but what i loved most about styling this floral wrap dress was the retro accents β€” the clear acrylic bag & strappy strappy heels and all white for that 80s vibe.

the cropped faux fur jacket

it’s FAUX fur. faux real umm-kay.

a faux fur jacket is something i’ve always wanted except living in TX it just felt wrong to get one because it never gets that THAT cold here. UNLESS it’s on major sale. haha, i snagged this one for half off and didn’t think i would keep it but once i touched it there was no turning back. IT IS THE SOFTEST thing ever. i wore it out that same weekend and this jacket is a compliment magnet. everybody wants to… touch it. i mean i don’t even blame them. haha. i feel like a teddy bear in it #literally. it made me realize i never wear brown. so of course i style it here with BLACK. it’s probably a fashion faux pas but i don’t care. the two can be mixed in my opinion. a cropped jacket (faux fur or not) is a great one to have in the mix especially for petites because they don’t make you look shorter when you’re being β€œswallowed” by a jacket. AND if it’s fur, it adds a fun little texture as well and texture to any outfit always wins.

side happenings: LIFE IS CRAZY. (i keep saying that don’t i?! i can’t help it, it’s true). this past week was loaded of events & being in the presence of empowering women. i was invited to model by our local @nordstromatx in one of their kick off events for Austin Fashion Week #AFW β€” WOW, what an honor! it’s both terrifying and exciting so you know i’m on board. i come to learn it’s actually a fashion show… so runway, here i come!! all proceeds go to The Kindness Campaign // @tkckindness which is becoming my favorite charity. i had the chance to meet some of the ladies this past week and able to view their curriculum they bring into the schools where they teach kids about #selflove, emotions, feelings, and that YOU ARE ENOUGH just the way you are. their mascot is named Enoughie!! i don’t have kids but i LOVE what they do and wished i was able to experience this curriculum back in elementary school. in a day and age where social media is so prevalent, if you do not have the right mindset about yourself, it will tear you apart no matter what age. more about it later because these ramblings are actually becoming too long but i can’t help it because i have so many great things to share! until next time, xx.

celebrating 34 years

howdy, 34!

i can barely believe it’s already my birthday again! CRAZY! nonetheless, 34 here we are. i took a moment to read my 33rd birthday post and ah, it was such a good one and a great reminder even a year later. if you know me, i love to celebrate life β€” all things BIG and small (everyday). and birthday’s are one of them that happen once a year! i’m a firm believer that YOU should always treat YOURSELF right! reflections, janna-style after the jump.

another unexpected color combo: an almost mustard color & black! also, i love the texture that this corduroy skirt adds with the knit sweater and the suede over the knee (OTK) boots. of course, by the time i get to posting it, the skirt is sold out #bloggerprobs. y’all know i can’t let a winter season go by without busting OTK boots out.

side ramblings: last week i was fortunate to attend Kendra Scott x Hillary Kerr's (founder of WHOWHATWEAR) fireside chat at the new KS flagship store in Austin (if you haven’t seen it, it is BEAUTIFUL. i can only imagine the thought and detail that was put into the entire space)! there's always something so empowering about being in a room full of women trying to build their empire #bossbabes. i always love surrounding myself with people like so. it was a great night and Kendra & Hillary imparted some pretty simple reminders to us (yes, i actually do take notes): nothing worthwhile is ever easy, trust your gut, less is more, be the CEO of your own career because no one will care as much as you do, lead with kindness. all great takeaways to apply in daily life. at this event i knew no one except one gal in passing three times, @heynasreen who introduced me to her friend @lisajmakeup AND guess what? that following monday, Lisa asked me to be apart of her photoshoot for a tshirt she’s launching for a good cause. um, HELL YEA. i am a firm believer in ALWAYS SHOWING UP. that is HUGE. no matter if you know anyone or not, or if you have no idea what you’re going to gain from it, etc… i’m all about building connections or what i call these touchpoints in life. you just never know who you’re going to meet or where it’s gonna take you. #powerofpossibilities

i struggled to write this post. i scratched a lot of ideas, drafted and redrafted this. but i thought i'd just let it flow naturally. as i turn the corner to 34, i hope to be blinded by all the goodness that life has to offer. i want it to be so blinding that i have to pause and close my eyes to soak it all in. i hope to look at all set-backs and disappointments as a stepping stone to get me to where i need to be. in a recent conversation my GF stated, β€œyou don’t always get what you want, but you get what you need.” #dropmicquit and here is where i insert of one my favorite dozen quotes:

life is about the JOURNEY, and never the DESTINATION.

something that came to me recently was a saying on an @erincondren planner that was sent to me that i have embodied and continue to is, "design a life that you LOVE." i mean LOVE. what does this mean to you? to me, this means doing the things that i LOVE without a care in the world about anything/anyone else. it could also mean getting rid of the junk/people in your life that don't serve you well (and that you know don't serve you well). when things aren’t adding up right, it’s time to start subtracting. this also means knowing your self value/self worth without QUESTION! visualization is key here (and super nerdy so you know i'm on board), so visualize a life that you love β€” what does that look like? who's in it? what are you doing? what are you "driving" towards? ....and GO FREAKING MAKE IT HAPPEN! most of the time, the only thing holding you back is yourself! if you don’t know what you’re doing, FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT! and if you’re overwhelmed, START SMALL. it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re moving FORWARD & you’re actively making sh!t happen!! now is always the time. the most valuable currency we have is TIME. don't waste a second of it. don’t waste it on negative thoughts/people, blaming yourself, trying to change the past or re-work it. realize that the HERE, the NOW, the YOU are the only things you have control over. BUT allow yourself to believe that the next best thing is around the corner, you just have to open your eyes to be able to see it.

honestly, this probably makes zero sense to you, it’s written very much in what i dub to be janna-rambling-style. but all in all, it makes so much sense to me and that’s all that matters (bc who even reads this?! haha). cheers to you, janna, you’ve come a long way and you’re more sure of yourself than you have ever been in your entire life. stay focused, stay strong. i can’t wait to see what 34 has in store for you. whatever you do, make it #intentional & #EPIC.

navy & lilac

the navy & lilac edit.

this combo was UNEXPECTED. originally i was looking to pair these lilac earrings with something white. but somehow i couldn't find anything! (i know it's insane). anyways, i had a light bulb moment when my eyes stared at this dress i had randomly bought earlier this month. ding ding ding. love how it always works out (well, for the most part haha). i am now a HUGE lilac/lavender fan and really diggin' how it just POPS with navy. i highly suggest you give this color combo a try!

when i graciously received some pieces from the @KendraScott summer 2018 collection, i squealed and flipped through the lookbook oohh-ed and ahh-ed through each page. again, the photography is so on point. and i'm such a sucker for well thought out details and styling. did y'all know i LOVE photography?! #nerd. but something caught my eye. this quote below. more on this after the jump. xx

if we don’t take a risk and try something entirely new, who knows what we might miss? when we live boldly, we live fully.

this inspired me and i thought it would be fun to expand on this and write about what this means to me aside from fashion. because y'all already know i'm all about staying true to your style but also stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something completely different β€” make it yours and rock it! but in relation to bigger things, aka: life, i think it's about three things:

  • wandering into the unknown.
  • doing things that scare you.
  • putting yourself in uncomfortable situations.

when you think about it, the biggest achievements in life required some major hardships and really tough moments of uncertainty and doubt. aka thoughts like this: what am i doing? or WTF am i doing?! yea, i have no idea what i'm doing. this is scary. i'm putting myself out there and i have a lot on the line. but what matters most is THAT YOU ARE DOING IT. sometimes you gotta jump in situations where you don't know all the answers but the key thing is: you figure them out along the way. sometimes this means making mistakes. BUT (big but) learning from them. you don't have to have the answer to every question or know every step of the way. sometimes i think this is where we shine our brightest. when we don't know, we have to work harder to figure it out, to learn new things, to adapt/evolve. only then will our achievement have the greatest β€œvalue.” wouldn't you agree?

my sister always says, "if you aren't doing something that scares you, you ain't doing it right." she’s spot on. the blog is this for me. it’s actually scary being out here on the internet because i’m actually a private person. oh. the. irony. i have no idea who is visiting or reading jcjancjaixjsbcn i mean who reads this?! #justatest haha! i think this also means making a conscious effort to put yourself in uncomfortable situations. why? because life it short, and i believe that moments where you push yourself to do scary things out of your comfort zone are you actually LIVING LIFE!! if you've ever put yourself in situations like this, i'm pretty sure you have looked back with a big grin on your face 'YEP, that was scary and really uncomfortable, but i did it anyway!!' that's what i'm talking about! #cantstopwontstop

anyways, i hope this post inspired you to take a few seconds to stop and wonder what you do/are doing to live fully. and if you are not or drawing a blank... remember, it's all about them baby steps. xx

austin fashion week part 2

one post jam packed with two outfits!

these two outfits below were worn on night one and two of Austin Fashion Week #AFW. you can see night three right here along with a recap

night 1 outfit ramblings: what drew me to this dress was the criss cross halter style and the very bright bottom (not to mention frayed!). the dress was sent to me by @hutch_design and it's a brand sold at Anthropologie.com (and you know i love me LOTS of Anthropologie!!). i received dozens of compliments on this although many thought it was a skirt vs. a dress. my tassel earring collection has grown enormously within the last year but lately, i can't help but find myself ohhing and ahhing at J.Crew earrings. these they are SO LIGHTWEIGHT. the main problem with beaded tassel earrings is that they are usually too heavy. anddddd.... i haven't seen many people wear them so they were a total WIN purchase. currently eyeing these beauties.

night 2 outfit ramblings: i recently became a ZARA addict -- great price points. one of my friends always picks the best things from there! anyways, this jumpsuit went into my cart because of the striped strapless (first strapless jumpsuit) design and the little cut out detail. like i have said before, a jumpsuit always wins and i felt this one was so appropriate for AFW. it's not too dressy or too casual. i paired it with this layered choker which i have been eyeing for so LONG! you will also see the @mollyphillipsjewelry arah bracelet i'm wearing that was purchased at AFW! she has such beautiful designs, and i'll always remember this bracelet because my blogger babes, @byhilaryrose and @heykailymae and i purchased them together. #twinngiswinning! i always love pieces with a story behind them. #sentimental

the blush drop waist dress

helloooo march!

well... this dress is pretty old (last summer)! as a blogger i sometimes feel pressured to only post things that i can link or that are in stock. ideally, that is good business practice. but honestly, it's just not #reallife when you have a day job. in the past i have not shot outfits because an item would go out of stock etc... enter new mentality: SCREW IT! i wanna post things that i like! regardless if i can make a sale out of it or if it's not in stock i always find similar items. it's all about fun to me!

onto the outfit: this dress is a loose fitting one, so sign me up for anything loosey-goosey. it's blush, it also has pockets, but what i like most is the drop waist and the high low hem. i don't have many of these! i paired it with this grey moto jacket to give it some oomph as sometimes loose fitting dresses need a little something, whether it be a belt, jacket, statement necklace etc! this is also my fave bag from Kelly Wynne's spring collection i am swooning over! it is the perfect size and shape and the print/texture/color will go with anything and everything.

weekend recap: holy moly, if you followed my instastories, this weekend was nuts. FRIDAY -- @kelliesbakingco had a re-opening, they put my instagrams on a cookie! how cool is that?! SATURDAY -- went to support my pilates studio @toddpilates at a wellness event. SUNDAY --had brunch @stgenevieveatx, i recommend the make your own mimosas and the english toffee french toast (fresh bananas, hazelnuts, and a NUTELLA whip cream). it was amazing. finished sunday with a blogger event at @cotone_atx a clothing and beauty bar at the domain!

lastly, if you made it this far in reading my post you should pat yourself on the back. SXSW is creeping up pretty quickly and i cannot wait to attend some festivities, network, eat, and hang out with some friends!
