PM skincare routine

i couldn't wait to share my PM skincare routine with y'all to complement my recent post on the AM skincare routine! the PM is a little more intense than the AM because it's the time of day where your face will be bare and clean while you get that beauty sleep on! this may seem overwhelming, but i actually look forward to all of this -- i encourage you to start a PM skincare routine that you look forward to!

01 | cleanse

dermalogica precleanse ($38 USD for 5.1 oz.) -- start your routine by taking all your makeup off with a cleansing oil. most of the time, these are to be used on a dry face before you do anything else. this gives the Clarisonic (next step) a clean canvas to work with which yields better results. i highly recommend this no matter how little makeup you wear. however, it doesn't come in the best packaging, so i fill mine in an empty Caudalie SOS serum container that has a pump. unsure? try the travel size

dermalogica special cleansing gel ($36 USD for 8.4 oz., pictured is the travel size $10.50 USD for 1.7 oz.) -- this was also mentioned in the AM skincare routine since i wash my face twice a day. in the PM i use the cleansing gel with my beloved, HG (holy grail) can-never-live-without Clarisonic mia. as i mentioned in my Clarisonic mia review, this brush works best in the shower and this cleanser lathers very well, isn't drying like foam cleansers, and fragrance free.

02 | exfoliate

AMORE PACIFIC treatment enzyme peel ($60 USD for 2.5 oz.) -- this is one of the first powder exfoliators i've used and i love it. the only problem is that it's not really convenient to use. by this i mean that the powder is activated with water. therefore, if you leave this bottle in a place where there is moisture (aka: bathroom), it will clump up. this is a very gentle exfoliator and you only need a tiny amount. this bottle has lasted me almost two years and we're still going. i use this about 3x a week, activate it with water and leave it on my face and neck for about 30 seconds. TATCHA also makes a unique range of rice powder exfoliants in: soothing, classic, gentle, and deep. i have tried the classic powder and it also works great, very similar to AMORE PACIFIC without the signature AMORE PACIFIC perfume-y smell.

03 | tone

SK-II facial treatment clear lotion ($70 USD for 5 oz.) and SK-II facial treatment essence ($105 USD for 2.5 oz.) -- this duo goes hand in hand. if you are going to use one do it right and use the other. see my review on my SK-II regimen. this is also HG status in my life. if you are hesitant, i recommend purchasing the SK-II starter kit ($105 USD, valued at $130 USD) which will also give you the opportunity to try the mask as well!

04 | moisturize

Caudalie SOS vinosource thirst quenching serum ($49 USD for 1 oz.) -- i've used this for sooo many years now, and it's so good that i use it twice a day, AM and PM.

TATCHA deep brightening serum ($185 USD for 1.7 oz / TATCHA also ships free to TX) -- this is the most expensive moisturizer i have ever used in my life. (gulp!) if you read this blog you know how much i love TATCHA products. not only are all the products outstanding, the brand, people, and company's philosophy really give it extra points in my books. i tried this serum in the TATCHA ritual discovery kit ($59 USD for four RE-FILLABLE travel size products, valued at $99 USD) and fell in love. every morning i honestly feel like my skin is more luminous and bright. however, there is one downside (besides price!!), i can't see how much is left in this pretty white bottle. therefore... i have legitimate fears that one day i will push down on the pump and nothing will come out. #thehorror

Kiehl's midnight recovery concentrate ($46 USD for 1 oz.) -- a few years ago the thought of putting oil on or anywhere near my face was out of the question. who would do that and WHY?!?! skincare has changed since and putting oil on your face is actually very accepted/encouraged these days. so i jumped on the bandwagon with this, my first oil moisturizer. it is supposed to, "regenerate, repair, and replenish skin for smoother, healthier skin." it also has the same scent as the midnight recovery eye cream, but nothing overpowering. i mainly use this for my neck. can't forget the neck!

05 | prevent

Kiehl's midnight recovery eye cream ($36 USD for 0.5 oz.) -- this was one of the first eye creams i started using religiously the past few years. you should've seen my reaction the day i actually finished ONE whole tube! it will take you forever so for the price, this is really worth it since all you need is the TINIEST amount. tip: apply using the tips of your ring fingers, i've read this is the softest finger and the best to use for applying treatments to the delicate under eye area. this is a thicker eye treatment than my AM Skinceuticals AOX eye gel ($92 USD for 15 ml) and works great as a PM treatment. it is supposed to, "diminish the appearance of fine lines, dark circles, and reduce puffiness." again, with all eye treatments, you will not see the results immediately. i think that is part of the reason why people quit. remember, it's a preventative measure and the time to start is now, not when you start noticing the wrinkles or bags!

Cle De Peau Beaute lip serum ($95 USD for 15 ml) -- i recently splurged on this. after researching, it was the pot-less application that sold me, not to mention that it is by Cle De Peau Beaute. it's supposed to hydrate, shape, and minimize the appearance of lines/wrinkles. i've used this for a few weeks now and wow, when i wake up in the morning my lips aren't even dying for lip balm! again, you only need the tiniest amount so this will last me a long time. #purchasejustified

in summary,

  • use a cleansing oil to give your Clarisonic a clean canvas to work with
  • exfoliate
  • moisturize your neck down to your clavicles!
  • use an eye treatment, apply using tips of the ring fingers
  • be consistent

what are some PM products you can't live without?

the time for a good skincare routine is NOW!,

the navy striped trapeze tank

life is crazy. as in crazy good.

the past few weeks have been crazy. and i mean crazy good for JDC! i still can't believe it. i was featured on @FlirtSkirtOrMarry, the @BaubleBar instagram!, a personal email from @TATCHA and a inquiry to be featured in an online magazine. i am feeling the love and truly grateful for all of it! #grateful

i'm always on the hunt for loose fitting tank tops. especially with the Texas heat, these are a must. late night online "browsing" led to this purchase from Nordstrom, the Chole K stripe shark bite tank in navy/ivory stripe. what i like about this tank is the loose fit, the stripes, and the asymmetric hem. it can be a little hard to wear since it's a very flow-y/loose fit, but i think these tanks look best with skinny jeans and a long necklace. here i'm wearing my all time favorite jeans, the Hudson nico mid-rise skinny jeans, and my Kendra Scott rayne necklace in orange goldstone (representin' UT! hook em!). these Kendra Scott necklaces are great gifts for girlfriends and they come in pretty much all collegiate colors!

onto more jewelry talk. these BaubleBar juniper ear jackets are a good break from my traditional gold earrings. the antique metal really complements the opal stones. there are extra holes so you can adjust the backing in case you have longer lobes! and lastly, not that i don't have enough BaubleBar... but the question was, do i really need an elephant chain bracelet???

the answer was yes. (obviously.)

01 | Tom Ford skin illuminating powder duo in moonlight (face focus collection, August 2015) -- one of the latest releases from Tom Ford beauty. this is a limited edition duo of highlighters used to, "capture the most flattering types of natural light on the skin" in a gel/powder formula (similar to Hourglass ambient powders). i haven't seen it in person, but the images are so pretty to look at! this is LE (limited edition), so if you are eyeing it, i do recommend that you purchase one now as most LE TF beauty products sell out reallyyy fast! great reviews and swatches on @temptalia, @TheBeautyLookbook, and @TheSundayGirl.
02 | Clarisonic alpha fit cleansing system for men -- not that this is something i'm lemming for myself... but i was SOOO happy when i saw this release a few weeks ago!!! (this is a great indication on how much i love skincare... when i get excited over skin products for men...) this is long overdue, but props to Clarisonic in making a brush for men. i like how the handle (or lack of) is designed for a man's use. in my opinion, men will be more inclined to use it and clean their face the right way! PS: it's never to early to start christmas shopping. just sayin'!
03 | Giorgio Armani luminous silk compact -- GA makes some amazing foundation, so i've heard. the luminous silk is one of their top sellers in fluid form, but this is the most recent release in powder form!
04 | CHANEL stylo yeux waterproof long lasting eyeliner in pomme de pin (fall 2015 collection) -- finally!!! a black/brown eyeliner by CHANEL. PS: CHANEL beauty fall 2015 is stunning.
05 | CHANEL les 4 ombres multi-effect quadra eyeshadow in 254 tisse d'automne (fall 2015 collection) -- this palette screams FALL with hues of green, peach, and brown. what a beautiful combo. my BFF purchased this, it is so pretty on her. i find myself drifting towards their counter lately just to look at it! if only i had time for eyeshadow.
06 | deborah lippman nail color in it's raining men -- i have yet to try this brand! i've seen this color worn and it's so classy, the perfect fire engine red.
07 | SK-II mid-day essence pitera spray -- misting has become... a thing lately. i can't rave enough about pitera, but wouldn't this would be a great pick me up? also travel size friendly at 1.7 oz. #mistyoself.
08 | Hourglass ambient lighting powder in dim light (travel size) -- i have a thing... okay, maybe a slight obsession with anything travel size... and honestly, i know i am not the only one. (don't get me started on the travel size isle at Target.) this miniature is the cutest thing ever! not to mention, Hourglass powders are one of the best around.

the white lace midi dress

another little white dress...

this is the second white dress in my wardrobe. the first was the LuLu's lead a charmed life midi dress. i'm guessing i have a thing for white dresses at LuLu's! then, i realized why i didn't have any white dresses until recently. it's because a white dress is usually only worn to 1) all white party, 2) your own bachelorette/engagement party... that's all i could think of. but decided to add 3) take pictures #fortheblog. LOL! nonetheless, this one is beautiful and sold out in a few hours upon it's release. it has been re-stocked since, but sizes are limited (also runs large, see my comments below). although the white + nude + gold combo will never fail, i decided to add a touch of color with my cobalt blue Kendra Scott delilah earrings and the Kendra Scott cora ring. this set is one of my favorites from Kendra Scott.

this LuLu's pinnacle of prestige lace midi dress reminds me of the Self Portrait azalea lace dress (love their style!) but at 1/5th of the price! it's also not your typical 'lace,' it's a lace cut out with a nude slip underneath. this dress also comes with white detachable spaghetti straps. what i like most about this dress is where the slip stops to the bottom of the dress. it's see through. and i mean that in a good-classy-kinda way. the only problem i had with this dress was that it had no form to it, i had to use dressing tape for the top... in hindsight, the detachable straps would've helped here. dressing tape is amazing for those stubborn clothing items! the ones i use are by Fashion Tape Shapes and you can buy them at Ulta apparently. this pack is great because it has different shapes for different areas too! i've used them before, and trust me when i say it works, the dress/top isn't going anywhere!

JDC turns one & 5 things i've learned about blogging

wow. today, JDC (jannadoan.COM) turns ONE! how crazy is that?! what a year it has been of blogging. THANK YOU so much for reading and following along. i truly appreciate every comment, every like, and all feedback. although i've learned so much, i STILL have a ton to learn, and i find that extremely exciting!! so much to look forward to, i can't wait! i wanted to quickly share some of the things i've learned along the way:

01 | just start

for a long time, i talked about how i wanted to blog. what stopped me was actually very silly. "well, everyone and their mom has a blog, plus who's gonna want to read my blog?" truth is, it wasn't until i actually did it (with a little push) that i didn't care about those nuances or little voices inside my head. one step in the right direction is the best step you will ever take.

02 | quality over quantity

i stand by this in every aspect of my life. quality over quantity, always. nothing is ever half-a**ed here. every post, every picture, everything you see has been thought about in great detail and for many hours. you should hear about the talk i had about picking the FONT. if it is not on par with my taste, i will scratch it, redo it or think of how i am going to make it better. this is hard when time is limited as i work full-time. but everything i put on here is a direct reflection of my values and beliefs.

03 | blogging is hard work

when i first started JDC, i didn't think that blogging was going to take up such HUGE CHUNK of my time. i figured... shoot some pictures, upload, write a little text, publish, then voila... done! NOPE.. my gosh.. i was so so wrong about that. i work on this site everyday. i'm constantly thinking of the next thing. i give major props to those who blog. it is hard work. no doubt. i can't remember the last time i went to bed at 9pm!

04 | always keep in mind why you started

blogging has it's ups and downs. there are some days when i want to give up and think that this isn't for me. or days when i come home from a failed photo session with a huge weight of defeat on my shoulders. it's tough not to be hard on myself, because i am. always trying to push myself. but then, i have to constantly remind myself why i started this blog, and that is because of my passion for fashion (#norhymeintended). as an outlet to fuel my creativeness and share it with you! in the end, it's all about having fun.

05 | be inspired and be an inspiration

the fashion blogging world is HUGE! i am amazed by all the talent out there and truly inspired by all of it. it motivates me to become better... it makes me ask myself, "wow, how do i get there?" everyone has their own style and everyone brings something different to the table. that is what makes this so unique! i love it. my goal here is to inspire you. in whatever way that may be -- to try a new trend in fashion, to step out of your comfort zone, to take care of your skin, or to be confident and strut your stuff like no other etc!!

#cantstopwontstop,
JD

the jumpsuit

jumped outta my comfort zone into a jumpsuit... !

happy thursday! for this shoot i pulled out my first jumpsuit... (eep!) what's fashion (or anything for that matter) if you don't step out of your comfort zone every now and then? let's just start off by saying... these things are not the most flattering to wear due to the top and bottom being all in one piece. not to mention the inseam, thigh and hip area. that's probably why i don't see many women wear them. regardless, i've come to the conclusion that all you need to rock a jumpsuit is one thing... CONFIDENCE (that and a good tailor!). a woman who wears a jumpsuit is usually FIERCELY struttin' her stuff like no one else. advice: don't ever mess with a woman in a jumpsuit. ever. okay, but seriously, i encourage you to try it! i liked this one due to the simplicity, pleats, pockets, price, it also came with a belt but that didn't do anything for me... so i cut the belt loops off and did without it all together. nonetheless, this won't be my last jumpsuit.

ok, let's talk about this lipstick shall we? and the answer is no, you can never have too many! this was the first lipstick made by TATCHA, so... that was the justification for purchase. it was a limited edition edition lipstick in the color Kyoto Red, TATCHA only made so many for the debut earlier this spring, but apparently, it was so popular that there is now a waitlist! looks like more is to come, so sign yourself up here. this is an elegant red for every skintone and described as "...featherweight formula combines brilliant pigments with silk and botanical extracts for a uniquely long-wearing matte finish, with a deeply hydrating texture." on me, this is the most beautiful bright red-orange. let me add, the packaging on this lipstick is EXQUISITE. it's a hefty black lacquer packaging that surpasses Tom Ford's lipstick packaging! this is one of the reasons why i love TATCHA -- their packaging game is on point.

summer sunscreens

picked out some sunscreen goodness for your beautiful face!

keep in mind, the sun has two different types of harmful rays: UVA and UVB. UVA causes wrinkles, premature aging, and spots. UVB causes burns. soo.. to cover yourself from both rays, you'll want to get a broad spectrum sunscreen regardless if you are covering your face or body! remember, the sun is very damaging to skin so protect it and wear sunscreen everyday!
