the white floral midi skirt & crop top

all white. after labor day. oops. #sorrynotsorry

well... there is no doubt that this outfit is completely out of season. but i couldn't resist! this is my first piece from Chicwish and i'm pretty happy with it. they have sooo many midi skirts, it was hard to pick one. i ended up with this one because i liked the blue floral print and... ding ding ding you guessed it, it also has pockets! one down side i will note is that the skirt is a little noisy when you move/walk around due to the liner/material it is made of (not the highest quality). the high-waisted fit went really well with this crop top and i decided on gold accessories and my cobalt earring/ring set to bring out the blue floral print. as my photographer said, "yep, that's blog-y." :)

twirling is hard work. but someone's gotta do it.

fall basics part one

gear up for fall!

fall is around the corner and i wanted to do a two part series on some fall wardrobe basics. click the "READ MORE" for details!

01 | PUFFER VEST -- the J.Crew quilted puffer vest is always a bestseller each year! puffer vests are very versatile and can be worn with long sleeve shirts, and button downs. easily paired with riding boots (see 05 below) for an effortless casual look. see it styled here on JDC with a navy gingham button down (my most pined outfit!). another great option is the Gap primalloft chevron puffer vest with detachable faux fur hoodie.
02 | DARK NAIL POLISH -- the Essie fall 2015 nail polish collection in frock and roll is such a beautiful fall color. on the website it is described as a "shimmering expresso color" however, in really looks like a black, expresso, and dark purple with shimmer? kind of hard to describe, it's very unique. either way, this is the stand out color from their fall 2015 collection. i can't wait to use it!
03 | RAIN BOOTS -- everytime i wear my Hunter huntress rain boots (extended calf and shorter shaft than the Hunter original tall rain boots), i get comments like, "wow, you're prepared for some rain." "those are some boots you got there." etc... it's pretty funny (harharhar), but these are SOO helpful when it's pouring rain or maybe even snow? (don't take my word on the snow part because i do live in TX...) you'll be the only one with dry feet! see them styled here on JDC with a gingham top & puffer vest, and with a striped dress
04 | PLAID SCARF -- if you read blogs, you will know of the Zara plaid scarf craze last year. unfortunately, i did not get my hands on one. but this Sole Society wool plaid scarf in tan looks veryyy similar! if you don't have one. you need one. see a plaid blanket scarf styled here on JDC with a top bun
05 | RIDING BOOTS -- these Frye melissa button boots are my fav! love that they come in extended calf sizes as well in cognac. you can feel the craftsmanship when you touch/wear these boots. they are not cheap and really an investment. i see myself wearing mine for years to come. the Sam Edelman penny boot is also another great option available in varying widths and currently on sale!
06 | SUEDE BOOTIES -- booties are the best. i have a pair of Old Navy ones i wear to death and they are starting to fall apart #shouldveboughtabackup but the Sole Society lyriq heeled ankle bootie in khaki (BTW, really hot color this season) is lookin' good and also comes in navy. i like the straight cut top and the strap detail. a low heel alternative is the Sam Edelman petty ankle bootie.

the indigo wide leg jumpsuit

warning: there are a lot of pictures ahead.

can't. get. enough. of. this. jumpsuit!! this was a fun shoot, mainly because the weather was cool that morning (finally!!!), so no crazy hair and the location/lighting was perfect. oh, and the first thing my photographer said was, "WOW, you look like you're 6' tall!" thumbs up to that. except the truth is, i'm really only 5' (ok, plus 2.5" LOL)... #reallife. it's the heel + platform combo. IMO (in my opinion) any heels that have a platform are much more comfortable/wearable than those that aren't elevated. now (and again IMO), platforms don't go with everything, especially when you're going for a really streamlined/sleek look due to the "chunky" heel. since these are wide leg pants, it didn't really matter because you can't really see the shoes. since my last post on the black jumpsuit, i was on the hunt for a wide leg one! i LOVE this one from ASOS due to many reasons: the top detail (fold over hem + high neck fit), the back detail (bow tie), the indigo color, price (on sale!!), and last but not least, the pockets! truly a great addition to my wardrobe (that is growing exponentially as i type this). eeppp.

hope y'all have a great weekend and thanks for reading! xoxo.

the button front denim skirt

MONDAZE... (who's with me?!)

before it's too late, i wanted to share my button front denim skirt! this trend was very hot this summer and i've seen many people wear it different ways. i purchased this Topshop moto button A-line skirt due to the COLOR. i loved the bright blue wash vs. the normal dark/light wash. it's a happy denim color and perhaps my only denim skirt. the A-line fit was also flattering as most denim ones are kind of tight and not really up my alley. i paired this with a causal sleeveless button down by tying it in the front, but a t-shirt or tank top also works!

it's also ACL (Austin City Limits) Music Festival right now, and gee, what a rockin' outfit this would be for it!! #ifionlyhadtickets #preparedfornextyear

the perfect travel bag & essentials

i decided to do a post on the perfect travel bag and essentials that i took with me on my last trip to NYC

bag

when i travel, i never carry anything designer (i.e., CHANEL, Celine...) mainly because i do not want to worry about the bag getting scratched, rained on, stolen? to me, the ideal travel bag must be a few things: 1) crossbody = hands free, 2) durable, 3) lightweight, 4) fit the essentials, 5)  zip closure, 6) have compartments. the Tory Burch robinson mini dome satchel in dust storm (taupe grey-ish color) fit the bill on all counts. it measures 9"L x 3.7"W x 7"H; 23" crossbody strap. in addition, the strap is also removable in case i needed to go to an event or anything. i LOVE this bag (and all mini bags in general! they are adorable!). this one in particular has a side zipper and two pockets for your phone or keys on the inside. the top handles also fold down which i really like. lastly, the entire Tory Burch robinson line is made from saffiano leather; which is scratch resistant. this is an older model but i have linked a few similar ones below.

  • Tory Burch robinson small multi satchel -- $495 USD. comes in black, tiger's eye (cognac), french grey, and jitney green (which is a BEAUTIFUL fall color). 11"L x 5.25"W x 8"H; 4.5" handle drop, 22". three compartments, two are zip closures and the bag itself is a snap closure (a little downside). saffiano leather, detachable straps, and the handles fold down. sign up for Bloomingdales emails and receive 10% off.
  • Michael Kors medium cindy saffiano dome satchel* -- $258 USD. comes in blush, cornflower, black, and navy (my pick!.. if i needed one...) this is the closest dupe to the Tory Burch dome satchel in the picture above, but a little larger at 12"L x 4.5"W x 8.5"H; 6" handle drop, 17" to 19" strap drop. zip closure, saffiano leather, detachable straps, and the the handles fold down.
  • Coach nolita satchel in crossgrain leather* in beige/light gold -- on sale for $206.50 USD; regular price $295 USD. this looks like saffiano leather and i really like the shape/design, the finish of the leather on the sides is very streamlined. this color is very close to the TB dust storm. it measures about 11"L x 7"H x 5"W; 22" strap drop. zip closure, detachable straps, and the handles fold down. Coach has definitely stepped up their game in the recent years.

*this is apart of the Bloomingdales friends & family sale so get 25% off by using code "FRIENDS" at checkout. also, shipping to TX is TAX-FREE! details on this sale here.

electronics

  • mophie powerstation (mini) -- i've mentioned this before in one of my current lemmings, and purchased one for myself (again, i take my recommendations very seriously!) i can't tell you how much i love my mophie! i've used it on a normal day-to-day basis, but it really comes in handy when you travel and outlets are limited (i.e., your traveling groupie be using all of them!). the only thing you have to do is remember to charge it. AND... did i mention that this is a great gift idea!? the mini is good for two FULL charges on my iPhone 5s, and also works on Android.
  • Symphonized premium in-ear noise cancelling earphones -- i purchased these for the NYC trip, and the moment i put them in my ears for the flight, i vowed to never go back to the CRAPPY Apple earphones. it's one of those things you discover where you ask yourself, "how have i lived so long without this?!" while my sister was listening to her music at the highest volume, i was listening to mine at one or two notches. i had to put a stop to the feeling of deaf-ness/ears ringing when getting off the plane from listening to high volume audio. these peaked my interest due to price (only $25!, regular price $99) and rave reviews (4.5 stars, 6,500 reviews). the cords are also nylon so they are not easily tangled. i mean, untangling Apple earphones?! ain't nobody got time for that! it also comes in different colored headphones/cords and three different silicone ear tips for a custom fit. I CAN'T RAVE ABOUT THIS MORE. JUST GET IT.
  • Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 -- this was borrowed from my SS (thanks soul sista!). it's a pretty cool camera that has a touchscreen and you can take pictures with different filters like instagram. the downside = no zoom. i will be investing in my own travel camera soon! #moretravelingplease!

health & beauty

  • Jack Black intensive therapy lip balm SPF 25 -- my friend introduced me to this and i've come to REALLY LOVE it more than my Kiehl's lip balm (gasp!)! it is much longer lasting and it has SPF 25 (high). like skin, lips are also prone to get freckles too, i know i see one on my lip right now. so SPF is a must for lip balms during the day. purchase a pack of four (one for each purse!?!) and save $5.
  • Dior Addict lip glow in sheer pink coral SPF 10 -- this is a great alternative to lip balm for those who want a little tint. this is supposed to, "enhance your natural lip color while moisturizing and protecting the skin." looks extremely natural.
  • Emergen-C in pink lemonade flavor (my fave flavor!) -- i'm a germaphobe so i usually take a packet the day before i leave and when i arrive at my destination. i always bring extra packets and for some reason... i come home with none! it's because i'm giving them away to my traveling groupie so they don't get me sick. LOL.
  • Eucerin skin calming daily moisturizing creme -- you can get a 1 oz. tube in the travel section at Target (just try to only pick up one item in that section! i dare you!), its small enough to fit in your bag and what's great about this is that you can use it on your hands AND your face (in case it gets super dry or irritated from being in different environments)! it is also unscented and great for sensitive skin!
  • Kleenex, Advil, Band-Aids -- these are great items to have for headaches, random cuts/bumps/scratches, blisters?

needless to say, i'm someone you want to travel with! i'm usually prepared for anything/everything.

life is short. travel (and smile) more,
JD

bloomingdales friends & family -- fall 2015

hey y'all! it's that time of the year again! the bloomingdales friends & family sale!

this year bloomingdales is offering 25% off vs. 20% off in 2014. however, there seems to be more exclusions on the brands as the year go by. i don't remember Tory Burch bags or kate spade bags being apart of the exclusion list in the previous years, but they are now. nonetheless, plenty of things to pick up!! the best thing to know is that shipping to TX is TAX-FREE when you shop on bloomingdales online! if you ask me, 25% off + tax free = win win.

again, with these kinds of sales here are my tips:

  • if you are debating it, get it now while at a discount then decide later.
  • unsure of size while trying to buy online? buy both. then return the other.
  • shop smart. don't buy it just because you are getting a discount!

my picks for the GALS:

01 | Hudson nico mid-rise skinny jeans in black -- a pair of black skinny jeans are a staple for the fall. these are available in my favorite brand/cut/rise. i would size down since they stretch a lot.
02 | Marc by Marc Jacobs ligero hobo in black leather (currently on sale for $299, original $428) -- i really like the leather on this bag, it looks like a smooth finish vs. the normal pebbled leather by Marc. this bag also comes with a crossbody strap which is a plus AND it's detachable. the extra 25% applies to the sale price too!

03 | Rebecca Minkoff quilted love crossbody in charcoal/silver hardware -- well, although not in the chevron leather style like the one from the Nordstrom anniversary sale a few months ago, the bag design is still very CHANEL like. it also comes in a variety of colors such as: dark purple, wine, army green, navy blue, bright denim blue, black, and white. the detachable straps makes this bag an excellent choice due to the different ways you can wear the bag = versatile.
04 | Cole Haan tali flex ballet flats in black -- these are the BEST FLATS FOR WORK. i own these and they are so comfortable, not to mention i love the bow detail with the gold hardware. it adds a little something.
05 | Sam Edelman petty ankle boots in putty suede -- every season i have this major lemming to get these. they are the cutest low heel ankle boots! i love this color of suede, also comes in black suede and black leather. these are going to look great with skinny jeans!!
06 | Michael Kors sawyer chronograph watch 39 mm in rose gold -- this watch looks very fancy and intricate. while i'm not a huge rose gold fan, i like how it goes so well with this gray/greenish face.
07 | Michael Kors darci watch 39 mm in gold/navy -- the MK darci watch is hands down my most worn watch, i have it in all gold (see a pict of it on me here, and here). i love how the face is thin and light compared to other MK watches. it is also very simple and super classy. love this gold and navy combo!!
08 | Cosabella dolce soft bra in black -- these are amazingly soft! love the style and cut. also comes in blush.
09 | Prada 54 mm cat eye sunglasses in black (not pictured above but on sidebar under "currently coveting." i've wanted these for a longgg time and surprised to see they are apart of the friends & family! however, i did happen to try on these babies this past weekend, the Prada 56 mm hexagonal sunglasses. LOVE THEM. too bad they don't have them avail on bloomingdales online. wah. #wasntmeantobe ...(for now). LOL.

the sleeveless blazer & leopard print heels

fall, where are you?

i cannot wait until it hits 70 degrees here in texas. count on me to be the girl who pulls out their boots and scarves when that day comes.

the sleeveless blazer. this is an out-of-the-box piece for me, so it took a little while to pull this look together. whoever thought a blazer minus the sleeves would be fashionable?! well, either way, this blush sleeveless blazer was one of those random Forever21 finds that actually happened to be on sale! #score!!! on trendy pieces like these, i usually don't like to spend $$$. that's why we have Forever21. i opted to pair this with a v-neck borderline-crop top, distressed skinnys, and my first pair of leopard print heels! these Sole Society heels are the d'orsay style with a mid-heel height which is perfect for me/the office. i also like how the calf hair adds extra texture to any outfit. i'm excited to put more looks together with these leo heels! overall, the blush + ivory + navy + leo = a good combo.

and lastly, these ear jackets. every time i wear them i get a ton of compliments! i think it's because they are so different/spunky and really stand out. ear jackets are really fun to wear and gives 'edge' to ANY outfit, talk about #streetstyleBaubleBar has an awesome collection of ear jackets ranging from subtle to crazy! i'd say these are medium-crazy!
